In 2027, we’re bringing it home with beautiful folk music, rollicking reels and jigs, dancing, interactive workshops and epic shanty groups to shiver your timbers. The sounds of the ocean will be singing and tales of land and lore will be shared through storytelling of every kind.
Spectacular artists from near and far will be gracing our shores, sharing the latest in folk sounds and shanty shenanigans amidst our friendly, historic town of Albany.

The crew that launched a festival
Around fifteen blokes who sing loud songs of the sea, the Albany Shantymen have turned up on radio, TV and film, and stirred up a shanty revival right across WA. Along the way, they founded this very festival.

Is the festival free?
Mostly, yes. Everything across the public venues in Albany’s town centre is free and unticketed, plus a small number of ticketed concerts, kept under $40 each. Sign up for news to hear when tickets go on sale.
When will I know who is performing?
We aim to announce headliners about 8 weeks before the festival and the full line-up about 6 weeks before. The printed programme comes out about a month before.
Where does it all happen?
At pubs, halls and venues across Albany’s town centre, all within walking distance of each other – no sea legs required. 2027 venues will be confirmed with the programme.
Where can I stay?
There are plenty of places to drop anchor in central Albany. Browse accommodation on Amazing Albany.
Is it family friendly?
Yes – bring the whole school. All ages are welcome, though children must be with a parent or guardian at all times in licensed venues, and some acts may not suit younger ears.
I’m an artist – how do I get on the bill?
Artists apply through our expression of interest, which opens ahead of each festival. Sign up for news to hear when it opens, or email info@albanyfolknshantyfest.com.
